About this event
Join OltrePelle lab to experiment with soft electronics, bio second skins and sensors to hack your pleasure and craft your uniquely personalized and alluring design.
During the workshop, participants will gain hands-on experience on soft electronics and sexual circuitry and experiment on growing biofabrics from algae and body fluids.
Through bio-hacking practices and do-it-yourself technologies, we will speculate collectively on alternative and sustainable futures in the realm of intimate technologies, leading to the prototyping of unique wearable sensual devices.
What if we could create a sustainable, symbiotic future with our bodily fluids?
What if we use bacteria to empower our bodies and go beyond the pleasure experience?
How can technology help us to explore and reclaim our sexual liberation?
OltrePelle is designed by Bruixes Lab - a nomadic lab where biohacking and witchcraft rituals are performed to create speculative scenarios about intimacy, pleasure and to destigmatize taboos around sexuality. An interactive space where intimate biotechnology, kinky, transfeminist and DIY practices intertwine in symbiosis with biophilia and bodily fluids.
Bruixes lab are Cristina Dezi and Giulia Tomasello. @bruixes_lab
This lab will be led by Giulia Tomasello - interaction designer and educator committed to female intimate care and its innovation. Founder of ALMA Futura, a research and consulting studio where design, science and anthropology combine to co-create tools for a cultural and radical change in womxn's bodies. In 2018 with the project Future Flora, she won the S+T+Arts Prize, a European award assigned to projects representing “Innovative Alliances between Technology and Artistic Practices”. Her multidisciplinary work has also received other awards at European and international levels such as the World Omosiroi Japanese Award in 2020. Giulia offers a new deeper understanding in female's wellbeing and prevention, developing innovative tools at the intersection of medical and social sciences. Coded Bodies is her teaching platform designed to learn the basics of wearable technology, smart materials and the exploration of biological textiles. Since 2017, she has been teaching in several Italian and European universities such as Politecnico di Milano, Royal College of Arts in London and Head in Geneva. She currently lectures at the Domus Academy in Milan, the Academy of Fine Arts in Perugia and the Kunstuniversität in Linz.
