Questa mostra presenta per la prima volta un importante nucleo di opere d’arte provenienti dalla collezione del professor Marcello Comel (1902-1995), fondatore della Institutio Santoriana – Fondazione Comel.

Personalità celebre per il contributo offerto alla medicina e all’umanesimo medico, Comel emerge quale mecenate illuminato e raffinato collezionista. Tra i capolavori esposti si annoverano dipinti di Gerolamo Induno, Moses Levy, Giovanni Lomi, Arturo Tosi, Lorenzo Delleani, Giuseppe Palanti, Carlo Sbisà e Arturo Nathan nonché opere su carta di Telemaco Signorini, Mario Sironi, Filippo De Pisis e Renato Guttuso.

La piena fruibilità dei pezzi esposti è stata resa possibile da un’ingente campagna di restauri, che ha contribuito a far riemergere l’originalità e la qualità della collezione.

Viene inoltre esibita un’accurata selezione di disegni dell’artista americana Linda Karshan, appartenenti a diverse fasi della sua carriera. Parte del suo prestigioso lascito alla Fondazione Comel, questo splendido corpus testimonia la rilevanza della collezione Comel nel nostro tempo ed il suo impatto sulle generazioni future.

The exhibition displays for the first time a significant body of works from the collection of the founder of the Institutio Santoriana – Fondazione Comel, Professor Marcello Comel (1902-1995).

Best known for his life-long commitment to medicine and medical humanities, Comel emerges as a visionary Maecenas and a distinguished collector.

The selection of masterpieces includes paintings by Gerolamo Induno, Moses Levy, Giovanni Lomi, Arturo Tosi, Lorenzo Delleani, Giuseppe Palanti, Carlo Sbisà and Arturo Nathan, as well as works on paper by Telemaco Signorini, Mario Sironi, Filippo De Pisis and Renato Guttuso.

A full appreciation of the masterpieces on display has been granted by a significant restoration campaign, which contributed to unearthing the originality and quality of the collection.

Furthermore, the show unveils a suite of drawings by American artist Linda Karshan, belonging to various stages of her career. Forming the core of her prestigious gift to the Fondazione Comel, these magnificent artworks document the relevance of Comel’s collection in the present and its impact upon the future generations.
