Lesson 2: The Olympian Women

In this lesson we will look at the Olympian Women. Who were they? And what did they do? After the introduction, we will focus on the four female gods of the first generation: Aphrodite, Hera, Demeter and Hestia.

Course Description

This course provides a structured exploration of the Olympian gods, focusing on their roles, relationships, and distinctions across two generations. Through four lessons, participants will examine the key deities of Greek mythology, their functions within the pantheon, and their influence on ancient Greek religion and society.

Tutor: Martine Diepenbroek

I am a Dutch Classicist and Ancient Historian, who works as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Johannesburg. I am specialised in communication security and secret messaging in the ancient world and had published several articles and a book. As a historian, I also have broad knowledge of Greek, Roman, Mesopotamian and Egyptian history, archaeology, and culture.
