An Incomparable Historian of Religion and Classicist in a New Light.
Presentation of the last two volumes of the collected essays of Walter Burkert, 1990 Balzan Prize for the Study of the Ancient World (Mediterranean Area).

Walter Burkert (1931–2015), Professor of Classics, particularly Greek, at the University of Zurich from 1969 to 1996, was one of the most innovative classical scholars and historians of religion of the 20th and early 21st centuries, with a worldwide impact well beyond his discipline. The last two volumes of his collected essays, which will be published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht/Brill Germany in 2024 and 2025, offer refreshing new perspectives on the multifaceted personality, academic career, and scientific approach of this unique scholar.
